There are so many different types of orchids for you to choose from!
Here at Boombox Club, we love all the orchid varieties. There are some common orchid types on this list, and some ones you might not have heard of.
First up we have this wonderful, understated orchid. The flowers bloom in a sultry, pomegranate red, with a simple yet elegant base of green pointed leaves. Despite what you may think, this orchid is actually really easy to care for. This is one of the orchid varieties that can handle a range of temperatures. One thing it does more of is humidity!
This is one of the more common orchid types for its versatility and adaptability. We recommend placing it on a north-facing window if you are located in the northern hemisphere. This will ensure it gets optimum sunlight throughout the week.
We recommend you operate a sparse watering regiment during the winter, but increase it during the summer. This will align with the orchid’s self-regulatory water absorption. If you’re looking for an orchid of this variety we have this beautiful Nelly Iser available on our website. It is one of our favourite orchid varieties.
These guys are a little bit pickier about their living conditions than the Cambria. They prefer cooler and less humid conditions than Cambria Orchids, making them ideal for northern hemisphere residents. During the colder months, place these orchids on a sunny window ledge. During the warmer months, bring it away to a less sunny, cooler environment.
Dendrobium enjoys a balanced fertilizer for its soil, with regular feeding. We recommend feeding every other water once the flowers are in bloom. You can prune and trim this orchid down however you wish.
Once it does bloom you will be met by the most exquisitely beautiful flowers. These range from extremely light to soothingly dark. At Boombox Club, we stock this amazing Kumiko variety. It reminds us of the delicate, pale first cherry blossoms of the season.
These are probably the most commonly found orchids on the market. Coming in a wide range of colours from bold to subtle, this is one of the most iconic types of orchids. You can’t go wrong with different types of orchids, they are all supremely beautiful and work so well in a variety of homes.
This orchid variety is particularly easy to care for, making it a fantastic gift for beginners. They have a graceful, regal appearance, often flowering from dainty, thin stems. The contrast of the dark green stems against the bold flower colours is one of the things orchids are revered for.
They do not love loads of direct sunlight, so it's best to keep it moving around. The leaves are prone to burning if too much direct sun contact is made. The reason for moving it around is that fluctuating temperatures improve the growth of these orchids. Once the leaves have fallen off, the orchid will need a change of environment before it re-blooms.
These orchids are often grown from a special bark rather than conventional soil.
One of our favourite varieties of orchids is this unusual-looking, majestically beautiful variety. They are very easy to grow, and suit northern hemisphere weather conditions to thrive. Find one of these to spruce up your home and add a little vibrancy.
With cooler growing conditions and a desire for this variety of orchids, we recommend keeping it in a living room/tv room setting. Make sure that it moves around after the flowers have bloomed in order for it to have the best chance of re-blooming next year!
They love a drop in temperature from day to night as well. Make sure to keep them out of a temperature-controlled room for the most natural, ideal growing situation for these plants.
